Despite what you may think, ISO loading is completely illegal to and carry out - even if the ISO image you are using was taken from your own UMD disk.

Please only use this tutorial if you're ripping a free UMD demo. However, this tutorial does work with any UMD. Follow the instructions on this page to find out how to rip the image of your UMD disks in order to emulate them.

Then, see the "Devhook Complete Guide" for information on how to launch your ISO, as well as any later firmware up to v3.02 . :D

Ripping an ISO

Before playing an ISO, you need to extract or 'Rip' the disk's data into an ISO file, onto another storage medium.(IE, The memory Stick or otherwise).

The method I use to rip an image from a UMD is to use "DAX Dumper", an older, however fairly well-known ISO dumper. We will do so using the Memory Stick as our other storage. Ensure you have 300-1000mb free space. (It really depends on the size of the game).

First, you will need the program. Download it HERE.

 1. Open the archive, and drag the "PSP" folder to the root of you're PSP's drive.  If it asks you if you want to over-write any files, just click "Yes To All". Don't worry, no files will be replaced/deleted.

2. Insert the UMD you want to dump.

3. On your PSP's main menu (XMB), go to the "GAME" tab, and press the [X] button on "Memory Stick". Find and select the item called 'UMD DAX Dumper Beta 0.2' and press the [X] button.

4. You'll need to select your options:

4a. "Dump to". Selects the destination directory, which can be one of:

* ms0:/ISO - Dumps to the memory stick.
* usbhostfs0:/ISO - Dumps to the PC via USB.
* nethostfs0:/ISO - Dumps to the PC via wifi.

I would suggest using the first option; the others require alot of setup.

4b. Format: DAX, ISO or GZIP. I would suggest ISO. This is the largest file, however is compatible with all ISO loader. SAX is only compatible with DAX, and GZIP, is well.... not used.

4c.Compression level: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. If you're using ISO format, you shouldn't need to choose it. DAX and GZIP formats use compression levels to make the file smaller; 9 being the smallest. Smaller, isn't necessarily better though, as higher levels take longer to load, etc.

4d. Split size: Select the size of each part, or No split if you want to dump the full umd  to a single file. Do whatever you want, really.

That's it really!

To test that the ISO is valid, try opening it with WinRAR. If you see the standard ISO files (PSP_GAME and UMD_DATA.bin) then you're good to go! Try it out on your PSP! (Read my Devhook complete guide for more information).
