PSP Keyboard Help Page

The PSP Javascript Virtual Keyboard allows you enter URL's to use with your PSP web browser in a more simplified and less aggravating way than the built-in On Screen Keyboard (OSK) does. It displays your URL in a text box at the top of the screen when you click on the keys. None of the PSP buttons are remapped, so use X to click a key.

I have tried to keep the page as physically small as possible while keeping it a 'one page' aspect so the keyboard page doesn't scroll. I find that very annoying when I just want to browse the web quickly, to have the keyboard page scrolling all over the place.

At the top, the address bar is displayed. This box will display in real-time the URL you are entering. Once your URL is complete, press GO or ENTER to go to that file or webpage. If at any time you make a mistake, you can press 'BKSP' to erase the last letter you entered. If you made a mistake earlier in the URL, you will have to press 'BKSP' all the way back to the wrong character, and then continue from there. Unfortunately, you can't just select the letter you mistakenly entered and just correct it. If I can find a way to fix that, I will!

Underneath it are the basic protocol identifiers that the URL uses. File:/ is for accessing a file on the memory stick. As the browser isn't case sensitive, you should be able to open up pretty much any browser-displayable file on the stick. The rest should be self-explanatory. Due to some URL's requiring an s for secure browsing, I've added that one in there. And of course, a quick entry for the www. You can always enter these in manually.

Following that, the most commonly used symbols are added to this keyboard both along the top of the keyboard and intermixed with the keys below. Some symbols don't work in a URL or are never present anyway, so I have omitted some. The rest, should be located near their actual location on the QWERTY keyboard. The Clear key completely erases the URL you are entering.

At the bottom, I have added some shortcuts to commonly used domain name endings and webpage extensions. There's not enough room to practically add them all, but even some make typing them less tedious, I think. :)

Underneath the Keypad, there are three buttons that correspond with the Browser's tabs. Their actual location in the browser may change depending on what order they are selected, but from that point on they will continue to function in the order they are selected. You can switch between tabs with [] + LTRIG

Lastly, we have some special buttons at the bottom of the page. As I am a fan of Google, I've created this page to take advantage of a couple of Google's features.

GOOGLE BUTTONS

These buttons help you quickly use two of Google's features.

The first one, allows you to type a query into the URL box (Without the need for the protocol identifier) and then press 'Google Search' to automatically enter your query, saving you time and hassle having to enter it into Google's box with the OSK.

The second utilizes Google's Small Device Proxy. This proxy will take a URL and chop it up into small, bite-sized chunks for displaying on small-memory devices such as Cellphones. The PSP can take advantage of this because pages will load faster, and most of the page will be displayed. Unfortunately, some features don't work when using this, such as on-page Javascript or Shockwave files. But it should display images and text just fine, albeit formatted to fit the screen. At the bottom of the page, you will find the option to display the full page as well as next or previous, but the PSP may run out of memory if you do that, just as it would loading the whole page directly.

You can access the Google Small Device Proxy by clicking this URL: http://www.google.com/gwt/n

To return to the Keyboard page, just press back.

Enjoy!
