wifi password finder?

A friend of mine claimed to have a homebrew app that would take locked wifi and find the password. I asked him for it but he says that he deleted it because it took up too much space on his SD and on top of that he couldnt remember the name. I would just like to know if anyone has ever even heard of such an application and if so, where would i be able to find it? thanks
