just updated the wii am i screwd

i purchased the the on oct 1 and did an update then....am i toast for the twillite hack

Well if you go to the front page of WiiBrew there is a patch to allow you to install WAD files, which allow a lot of homebrew. And I believe a downgrader is floating around right now.

I'm sure if you wait long enough everything will be updated to work with the new update... But if you are impatient and want to fix it NOW, then the only way to get back full functionality is to downgrade your system.

Is there any word on when a TH or HB update is gonna happen that'll give us full functionality back?

No unfortunately not. Those things just sort of show up on the net. I imagine it's only a matter of time, but I'd be surprised if its within a month.

Does that mean I can downgrade my Wii without formatting it?

(I am quite clearly a noob, I don't even have any version of HBC installed).
