A tracking cookie is FAR different from a virus. It's just a cookie that keeps track of what kind of sites you visit. LOTS of websites put tracking cookies on your PC so the ads they display are more "suited" to your tastes. People just don't like them because they consider it an invasion of privacy, which is why antivirus software will scan for and delete them.

Yeah, tracking cookies aren't so bad. Most ads, no matter what site, will try and put them on your computer to suit the ads to your tastes, like Brent so eloquently said. For instance, on myspace, I put Pink Floyd as my favorite band or w/e, and so now it has ads for Pink Floyd on my myspace. I, personally, view the tracking cookies as an invasion of privacy but... there's not too much you can do about it because by the time you at least get one of them, you're gauranteed to have given them SOME information about what you browse, even if it's just browsing to find a program to delete them for you - which is still information that they want to keep track of... which still in a way helps them.

I wouldn't be "worried" about them though.

I like tracking cookies.
I'd rather see ads about chickens than horses.
Horses are bad people.
