Technology In 50 Years...

What do you think technology is gonna be like? It seems like whenever we make predictions for this kind of stuff, the predictions always reflect current technology and disregard what is actually in development. Take for instance Blade Runner. The movie shows flying cars and stuff, but the televisions in the movie are the size of the televisions that they had when the movie was being made. Or in Isaac Asimov's I, Robot, the people had to deal with issues of robots going rampant, but they could have fixed so many of their issues if they had video or tape recorders which were not around whenever the book was written! :O
I think the movie i, Robot, with Will Smith, is probably the best depicted prediction that I've seen for a movie... It just seems right to have a mix of old grudge machinery mixed with newer, sleeker robot designs.
What do you guys think?

Re: Technology In 50 Years...

they had a news article somewhere. ill try and find it. apple has a display patent for these like pixel "orbs" that would track eye movement for a consistent 3d image.

*edit*
found it http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/a ... splay.html

Re: Technology In 50 Years...

Discovery did a show on the Future some time ago and I was very engrossed in it (but I was young..seeing it now might make me think different).

Anyway, it was pretty cool. Holograms were common and my favorite was the little boy had a pet shark..but it was a hologram that followed him throughout the city. Also, there was a scene in space where an American astronaut knocked a Chinese astronaut (they were working together) unconscious because of Country Rivalry (he got the message to do so by something we would consider a cellphone. It was a glove that ran along his point finger and his thumg. Hold your hand as if it were a gun. Now, the "rectangle" created by this area is what we would think of as a screen.)

AHHHH I found a short video of what Im talking about!! I dont think all these things will be a reality, but I think A LOT will be. :)

Re: Technology In 50 Years...

what do i think the future will be like in 50 years? well gaming wise i think it will be something akin to Gamer, just without the guys being controlled by someone else or actually dying but immersing yourself into the video game world kinda like a full body scan that will scan you completely and put you as your avatar into the game. as for the real world me and my dad actually had this discussion last night i think that there will be androids for every house no matter the income bracket you live in, as for if they will be bound my Asimov's 3 rules only time will tell.

Re: Technology In 50 Years...

Asimov's 3 laws? Lol. That book was just silly. I don't think there's any technology that would ever be able to be confined by simply worded rules like that. And if you read the book, you'd understand how those laws can be exploited.

i read it ages ago. and i meant it kind of like a joke not a good one albeit but still a joke. :P i don't think Asimov's rules would really do anything but cause the hackers of the world to find back doors and reprogram them to break the laws. Just like in Robocop where how the head of OCP made it to where Murphy could "arrest" the VP is by firing him.
