Hello all

Hi all. This is another "I'm a newb, please help" thread that you guys must love so much.
I have a black PSP Slim, 2003 I think (that's what it says on the serial bar at the bottom of the unit.
The system software version that came on it is 3.72. I have read the comprehensive guide that is located here on this site and done the best that I can to get the information myself before starting a thread.
My problem is, I'm just not sure what most of the terms mean, or if it all applies to my PSP Slim.

What is 'custom firmware'? What does 'kernel' mean? And what does 'HEN' mean when they refer to it when mentioning eloader? How does eloader work? I've been reading about this 1.50 custom firmware in the guide. Does it reverse the units
firmware to 1.50 or does it fake it, therefore allowing us to still download updates without risk? Can I get this running on my PSP Slim?

I think my main question is, how many methods of getting homebrew running on a slim specifically are. I don't think I have access to another
PSP to create a Pandora's battery, and there will certainly be no opening up of any hardware ;) Which is the safest method to get homebrew running on a slim
without a Pandora's battery? Does the firmware neccesarily have to be reversed to 1.50 to get homebrew running? I have heard of a method using a copy of Lumines,
does that work on a Slim? It sounds safer, because I don't think you need to reverse any firware. Is it a better option?

The primary things I need the PSP to do is homebrew, PSP, PS1 and older console rom emulations.

I read in some threads on this site that there is a difference between PSP game emulation on a PSP and an ISO. What is the difference? An ISO is what you
commonly find on torrent sites right? I also read there are 'cut'and full umd rips. What is the difference, and what are the implications?

Are there places online where I can possibly buy a Pandora's battery cheap?

Hello and welcome to the site.

* Custom firmware is a firmware like 3.71 M33-X, 3.40 OE-A , and etc.
Custom firmware will also allow you to run homebrews

* Kernal? are you talking about 1.50 Kernal Add-On? Well that allows you to run alot of Homebrews.

What is Homebrews?

* Homebrews are stuff like PSX Games ,gpSP , SNES , and etc.

What is PSX Games, gpSP , and SNES?

* PSX Games is playstation games
* gpSP is Gameboy games
*SNES is super nintendo games

*Eloader is also a homebrew and if you want to know what it does search it up.

You can also get these running on your psp slim.

You need CFW(Custom FirmWare) to be able to get all these cool stuff since your psp is currently on 3.52 OFW(Official FirmWare).

And if you want pandora battery just keep searching the sites for stuff

I hoped I helped you much something you said I didn't told you about.

So you are saying that I can actually get the stuff running on my 3.72 slim? Do I need a pandora's battery, or can I just install custom firmware? Which guide on this site would be best for that?

Maybe I should post this in help instead...can a mod move this?

Yes you can do it on your slim but you need a pandora battery to downgrade your OFW to a 1.5 I think then to CFW.There should be tutorials around here.

I'm not quite certain as to what you are asking. If you are asking if there are any coders on this site, then yes there are.
I am one :D

And />s/>, homebrew is refering to any application or game made in one's home.
Not just those three types of things.
I make homebrew and they have nothing to do with other consoles or handheld systems.
There should be 4 new ones coming out pretty soon by me actually.
All 4 will be able to use on a Slim.

What I mean is are there going to be methods to get homebrew running on a lite without a phat and pandora battery anytime soon.

Um, probably.
People will probably always be able to use this method, therefore, there isn't much of a need for them to search for new exploits to run unsigned code.
Eventually, we will be able to if someone finds something though.

Well for Slim owners who don't have access to a phat there are plenty of reasons ;)

I have a Datel TOOL battery in the post, so now I don't need the use of a phat, right? I just need to make a magic stick? What's the best way to do that? I currently have 3.73 regular firmware.

Thanks. This seems to be the most simply layed out tut yet. What is NAND? This tut doesn't cover installation of custom firmware, does it?

Jesus lol.

When I have custom firmware installed, am I going to be able to play games I've bought previously? What is the situation with accepting updates? Should the custom firmware I chose match the current firware I have in version number?
