What happened to the psp mod chip?

A while ago there was a big deal about the psp mod chip what has happened to it? i have not heard of any news or talk about it. does it work?

yeah, but for now there are no custom firmwares that Epilson Bios has released.

YES. It works on all firmwares.

Do not update it when you get it.
Leave it at the firmware when you have it, just incase you might not get back to you're firmware ever again.

so if u have a firmware 2.8 use the modchip and load up 1.5
