What firmware option to pursue..

Hi

Firstly my apologies if this question has been addressed elsewhere on the forum. I did check, but may have missed if it has.

I have a Japanese 'fat' PSP with original 1.50 firmware. Installed on the memory stick is Devhook version 0.45 by Booster/launcher modified by mok.

This works fine, emulating firmwares up to 2.71 and playing all the ISO & CSO that I want. However, I haven't used my PSP for a loooooong time, and so am behind on all of the new firmware options.

My question is this: I want to play an ISO that says I require the 3.51 firmware. All of the information I've been reading seems to suggest that you now have to physically upgrade the firmware on the PSP instead of emulating it, like Devhook does. What I don't want to happen is I upgrade my PSP and find that I've lost the chance to have an original 1.50 firmware PSP forever.

Is there a version of Devhook that can be installed on the memory stick that emulates the newer firmwares? Or is it not an advantage any more to be able to power cycle your PSP and be returned to an 'Old Skool' 1.50 firmware, once you've finished playing?

If I do indeed need to physically upgrade the firmware on my PSP to give it the functionality I require, what is the best option?

I hope I've made my question clear; if not please let me know

Well devhook is pretty old now so you will have to physically upgrade your psp. I'm guessing you wanna be able to play homebrew and iso/csos so you will need to upgrade to a Custom Firmware, it has the exact same features as Official Firmware except you can run homebrew and stuff. Custom Firmware is basically a higher firmware that just has a 1.50 firmware subset which allows you to run homebrew. You can revert back to 1.50 firmware later, and you can do so by using the firmwares "Recovery Mode" to go back to 1.50.

Since you wanna play a game that requires 3.51, you need to look into Custom Firmware 3.52 M33-4. You can update to 3.52 M33 directly from 1.50 with this tutorial. then you can run this update to get to 3.52 M33-4.

Once you do that, you should be set. If ya have any questions, just ask.

Thanks for the advive :D

Hi guys

Thanks for the advice - and quick too!

I followed the tutorials to the letter, and have upgraded my firmware successfully.

Can I delete any of the files or folders now on the memory stick, or do they have to remain?

Thanks again

Yea you can delete everything on your memory stick, you can format your memory stick to delete all the files on your memory stick, it will also make new folders for the current format you are using such as the 'ISO', GAME352 and some others.
