I just got my PSP and am ready to use a custom firmware to tweek it. I was stupid enough to update to 3.40. I have also comfirmed I have that motherboard that prevents downgrading and me using that mod chip everyones talking about. I am thinking about waiting until Whenever the next FW comes out and get the custom version of it, but due to the fact that I have bad karma, I'm half expecting whoever reads this post to tell me without GTA, I am shafted. Please tell me I'm wrong and that I can use custom FW without Downgrading.

Well, I respect the fact that you did some research before coming in and posting "OMG I UPGRADED TO 3.40! GIB DOWNGRADER PLZ!".
But I'm afraid that without GTA, you are shafted.

Well, for now you are shafted no matter what, there is currently only downgraders up to 3.03.
so now you must either play the waitng game, or buy a new mobo.

(Insert all swear words you know here.)
But they will be here eventually right? any idea when?
Edit: And how does my motherboard stop me from downgrading? That's what's got me confused.

You know what you should do? Purposly brick your PSP, take it back to the store, say you did the update that came with the Sony PSP package, and get a new one.

That's what I had to do my first time anyways. Then when you get your new one, don't touch ANYTHING, and wait for someone to help you.

Where did you buy your PSP? Maybe you can just return it, then go to another store and pick up a new PSP.

It'll happen relatively soon, I'd think. Things like that sometimes seem to spring up out of nowhere on us. Regarding the motherboard, there are three main types (ta-080, ta-082, ta-086). The ta-080 was the first, and easiest for devs to goof around with but the other two are newer and make things like downgraders a bit more difficult.

I think i'll just wait. I don't feel like ripping off Target or lying to the clerk.
One last question that's been bothering me. I am a Naruto fan. (I will ignore all flames). I have already reserved a copy of Naruto Ultimate Ninja Hero coming out in Augest. I am Using this title as an example. If a game comes out in another country, such as the one mentioned, while a certain FW is out, then several months later is rereleased in English, can they rig it to demand the most current FW even though the one it came out on is antiquate? I ask because I dont want to update my FW unless a title demands it. 3.40 just came out, so how long before a title comes out that demands it?
Plus I found GTA on ebay and was woundering if it is a good Idea to buy one there. The discriptions even said 2.00 unpatched version.

I don't know what Target's return policy is, but if it's l ike Wal-Mart's then you can return anything for any reason. Tell them you don't want it anymore. It isn't lying because you really DO NOT want it since you can't downgrade it. Technically, it's not lying.

I'm an office clerk at Krogers. I hate being lied to or deceived by customers. I am not about to be called a hypocrite.
Should I go ahead and get GTA from eBay? I can't Downgrade now, but will be required for future downgrades, right?

It will most likely not be used in a future downgrader because I'm pretty sure Sony has patched their firmware well enough to disallow any more hacks from GTA. But for other purposes, it is a great game that is worth playing

. I recommend both of the GTA games for psp.
