PSX resolution on the PSP

Hello

I just recently flashed my PSP to custom firmware M33 3.52, to be able to run ripped PSX games on it, by using the Pandora's battery technique. To my disappointment I have found that the PSX games I run, more specifically Final Fantasy VII NTSC, downscale the original PSX resolution to 320x240 and then upscale it depending on what you select under "resolution" in the options menu.
To make matters worse there's no way to scale the games up too full vertical resolution (272p) while maintaining the 4:3 aspect ratio of the original game.

Is it somehow possible to force the PSP to downscale the original PSX resolution to fit the PSP? Or possibly make the upscaling fit the vertical resolution of the PSP without screwing up the aspect ratio?

well you could try using firmware 3.40oe-a as that works amazing with psx games and the screen resolution should be fixed but if your trying to load a saved game from before then you might want to stick with wat youve got because 3.52 has the popsloader

the different custom firmware doesn't make much of a differense, besides the fact that 3.4O OE-A has a built in psx eboot emulator.

I don't think you can force it, magix. I'm not even sure that, mathematically, it's possible to scale 272p to a "perfect" 4:3 aspect ratio - but it comes close. I've had FF VII NTSC working just fine, and looking just fine, in full screen on the PSP. To notice a difference in quality on the PSP is being a little too stingy, if you ask me.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Maybe I'm too picky but I really feel that the downscaled resolution take away from the overall gaming experience. In "Original" screen mode the graphics and text look crisp and nice but they only cover about 60% of the pixels on the PSP. The upscaled graphics in any of the other screen modes look blured and washed-out. It's really too bad if there's no way to force the original NTSC resolution on the PSP because it could make for some really nice "full screen" graphics.
