Well I've only used softmods on the wii with NO modchip and I've been able to do anything I've needed to. Bricks are always a possibility but the risk is so little with these methods. 90% of the bricks that happen are easily reversible with the right tools. If you're remotely computer saavy you should have very little to worry about. If you have any questions always ask before you start, so you''re prepared for all you can be.
