Backwards Compatibility

I was at Gamestop and I overheard a conversation of the clerk and a customer.
He said the new 160GB model will have backwards compatibility. I went up and asked him if that was true after that customer had left and he said yes.
What are your thoughts on this?
Has there been an anouncement on this?

I made topic about what your talking about.
http://ps3.brewology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=476
but the backwards compatibility is still unsure. There is also a topic on the playstation blog saying that the system is similar to the 80 gig ps3 (just a 40 gig model with a bigger hard drive) that phased out the 40 gig model (that has no backwards compatibility).

If there is Backwards compatibility, I'm going to buy one.
Get Resistance, Burnout, COD 4.... etc.

LOL, if your doing that just try showing her you really want it by doing more chores. Worked for me when I was bugging my mom about getting a new laptop for me. :D

I heard about this a few weeks ago but from what I heard there was NO Backwards Compatibility :( :(.

But if you end up getting it, I suggest getting Resistance, CoD4, MGS4, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (If you like leet RPG games).
Resistance 2 looks promising as well with online Coop.
Also you should rent Unreal Tournament 3! That game is tight! It is so fast paced that you are having to press so many buttons and jump around and stuff it is awesome.

Unreal 3, Burnout, Resistance (1 or/& 2?), Mirror's Edge, CoD4, GTA 4, Rock Band 2, Portal, Motorstorm, Lost Planet, Fracture, F.E.A.R. (1 or/& 2?), and maybe some others..
Oh, and my girlfriend's uncle works at Alienware/Dell and knows a lot of people who make games like WoW and stuff, so I'd be able to get an uber discount.
