Information is ammunition. The responsibility to use it is and always will be up to the individual.

Self destruction is its own punishment.
Allow people to smoke, drink, sunbathe, etc to death if they want to, that is true freedom. My issue is when these people (for not applying the information given) expect compensation for the results of their actions ie running with scissors and then suing the scissor factory for not telling them it was a bad idea to begin with, that is not freedom it is socialism, these people should become an example for everyone, not a public burden.

Oh and about guns,

The second amendment intended for everyone to be armed if they so desired so that the citizens could band together and fight off oppressors. Read into it as deeply as you like.

If you don't like guns then change the constitution, better yet, move to a different country and allow me my few remaining freedoms as long as I don't restrict yours!

You just reminded me of the lady who's suing Victoria's Secret because her thong hit her in the eye

Anywho, you're right. Info is Ammo. But it just doesn't pierce deep enough.

Information does not pierce deep enough because many do not know how to apply it or understand it or even care enough to do anything with it. I think this is the result of conditioning over time.

Few parents take the time to teach their children anything these days. I do not know why people even insist on having children since the state/government practically "educates" them for the parents and parents have little if any time to spend with them. Schools do not seem to be promoting knowledge, instead schools seem to be shutting minds off or killing the brain's desire to learn. When you have brain dead children they usually grow up to become brain dead adults that put their eyes out with underwear elastic or worse, spend their lives with their parents or some equivalent there of.

Oh but it does it always does. If we as a people could get together in a peaceful non violent way we could get so much accomplished but yea as stated people care about themselves and the moment, little more.

We can fix stuff.
Most people think we can't because they think on an individual basis. If people could set aside or temporarily sacrifice their personal affairs for the greater good then it could get done but it seems like it is that handful of the same people that keep making the sacrifices for those that don't and it is just not enough.

If you really want to implement change brute force would be the quickest route.

If you really want to implement change we need to make people more aware of the problem at hand.

If you really want to implement change stop trying to force people to do things, and stop trying to force information down my throat.

Quick note on the guns for protection deal... I believe statistically you are more likely to be harmed by your own gun then being able to use it for protection in home invasion situations...

Oh, and information isn't power, common sense is. You can inform people about all you want, common sense tells them to use it or ignore it.

Smoking and drinking are really bad examples of this though. Yes they are harmful, but these are things that people weigh the consequences of. I smoke, and I drink. I am aware that it is going to shorten my lifespan, and eventually I will stop. But for now I enjoy these activities and will continue to do so until I've had enough. This is not an act of stupidity or ignoring information... I have just determined that for me the consequences do not outweigh the benefits.

Your HIV example was kind of stupid too... People that are not HIV positive get tested all the time, and many times it's not just because they were reckless, but that something happened (i.e. broken condom). Many people do use this information to their advantage and consider their past experiences "close calls" and do change their behavior. Yes, there are those that will ignore and still go on with their reckless ways. Fact is there are no statistics on this, so this can't really be debated anyway.

Forcing people to do something will bring about change, but not the change you want. As soon as you force people to do something, they will rebel. Teach common sense... that will bring positive change.

I do not know how accurate this is but if you are stupid enough to get shot with your own gun then you deserve what you get.

If you ask me this is evidence of natural selection.

Cars, cigarettes and alcohol kill people every day. I use these examples because they represent choices that people make.

It is ridiculous to think that if guns are eliminated that people won't find creative ways to hurt themselves and each other. This is common sense.
