Sony Service Center updates PSPs

Colin has written us to describe his experience with Sonys Service Center. Here is what he had to say:


A bit of warning to those of you who need to return your PSPs to Sony for fixing (they're good for a one-year warranty): Fix it yourself unless you don't want to run homebrew anymore.

I took my v1.0 PSP in to the Sony Service Center because there was a blob of white crap underneath the screen, dead-center, that had been there since I bought the thing. I figured that now would be as good a time as any to take it in and get it cleaned out or replaced, since I hear from various sources that "polite complaining" will get Sony to replace screens with dead pixels or defects.

Anyway, I took the thing in last Saturday. I figured that even if Sony updated my firmware to 2.0, I could knock it back down to 1.5 with that wonderful exploit.

Yeah, well. On Wednesday, Sony released 2.01, a wonderful firmware update that adds all the functionality of locking out homebrew (and doing nothing else). I got it back today (Sunday), and not only had 2.01 been installed, but THEY DIDN'T ACTUALLY FIX THE SCREEN.

I walked back to the counter and politely explained that they hadn't done anything at all to my unit aside from updating the firmware, so the nice lady sat down with me and I showed her the white chunk in the center. She apologized profusely and shipped it back. (Don't be mean to the girls working at the service center, they're not the ones unfixing your PSP.) We'll see what happens.

if i were this guy i would get sooooooooooooooooooooo pissed. but i am impressed that he didnt get too upset, but that blows huge dick dont it....

yea that sucks. I say if i paid $250 for something its my desicion if i want it upgraded, those homos.
