can't go into configuration in recovery mode, I used the wininstaller to go from 1.5 back to 3.40oea and
the problem still exists

One person I helped once actually had to use a different button to got into it. I'd think that the circle button would be the button of choice but I don't know. Odd problem, but if problems persist, I'd recommend doing a fresh installation of the firmware again.
