CFW is basically an "unlocked" version of the PSP operating system. Using CFW allows for the running of unsigned code, and allows many exploits and features that are not provided by Sony's official firmware. Examples include running PSP iso's off of the memory stick, ripping UMD's to computer, running emulators, and much more.

You'd need to hold off on getting CFW on that model.
CFW is amazing. The PSP can do some amazing things, but, your model is currently incompatable with it.
Right now, the closest lead we have to it is getting the game called Gripshift from your local GameStop and loading a specially modified SaveData for it to let you play Pong.
CFW on the PSP-3000 will come soon. Hold on in there!
It is defenately worth the wait.
I can run Windows XP on my PSP, watch YouTube, play some amazing homemade games, make my own games, play other games for other systems such as N64 and GameBoy Advanced, play PSP games, watch movies, listen to music, browse the web, IM with friends... and sooo much more!

I'll try to burst out of my cocoon some time this year lol I go online from time to time not that often but ill keep my ears open, thanx. So far ive liked the 3000 model, even though it cant be modded. Ive seen no problem with the scanlines on my psp *Knocks on wood* Though ive only gotten one game, ratchet n clank. Soon ill get some more games.

Yeah, the 3000 is by far the best device hardware wise... except for the screen which I still prefer 2000

LOLZ at that... it stands for custom firmware. It's custom because it isn't Sony's standard firmware anymore. It has been customized.

and no, the pandora battery method doesn't work on the 3000. It doesn't even work on the last of the 2000 models produced because Sony made a hardware revision that made pandora incompatible.

My buddy keeps pushing on doing the pandora thing to my 3000, would it completely destroy my 3000 or brick it if he tried it?

Nothing would happen, it would load to a black screen. It'll still work like normal when the normal battery is placed in there. I had a couple of failed attempts on late 2000s before, never affected them at all.
