what file do i use for snes9x rom cheats?

i'm playing a through super adventure island II (for the first time, it's okay...), and i don't want to play the casino forever...
so i found some codes for the "light equipment", but i have no idea what kind of file i input.
they are pro action replay codes, so i know they should work...
